Introduction This paper will provide my open reflection on the value of my experience with demonstrating understanding of selecting visual elements and principles that support effective visual expression and communication as stated in the learning objectives of this course. This approach is essential because it takes into account that the idea of capturing correctly framed images with the appropriate depth goes far beyond just using specific features and controls of a camera. Photos that encompasses elements, principals and style command attention and communicate a memory or feeling of the learner that can consequently shared with the world. Challenges of Creating Website Well, in completing this project it was required that we create a website through the use of Weebly. Creating a visually pleasing website was not an issue for me, since I frequently use this platform in work and in other graduate courses. The area I struggled was accumulating the large number of photos needed for each specific area. Some categories were easier to do than others, which require a considerable amount of time. For example, I was able to acquire photos of the elements of photography categories more easily than principles and styles. I think some photos I had used in other categories should have been allowed to be reused in other categories. This is based on my understanding that photos of course, on many occasions encompass more than one application of style, element, and principle.
Lessons Learned After completing this project, I believe the application of acquiring photos that included elements, principals, and style with definition for the representation was an effective demonstration of my learning. I think the use of Weebly web based platform is a perfect choice because it provided the feel of a virtual art gallery, just without the interaction of people. I learned a lot about style and the application of principles. Although, completing this project in the time required did present its challenges, I think the lesson that was really learn was applying elements, principals, and style to any and every photo taken. Of course, every student wants to produce high quality work by meeting every objective outlined in the course, but I think this at some point hinder us from the actual process. I was too focused on capturing the desired element, principle, or style with in the photo, instead of just taking the photo. Through this process, I learned to really be able to look at any photo--taken casually or purposefully and search for elements, principles and type of style used. Value to My Own Practice After completing this project, the value this experience brings to my own practice is the use of a web-based site like Weebly. The use of web-based site to display as well demonstration your level of understanding allows students to be authors of their own creation that can be shared globally. Another value this experience brings to my own practice is the simple use of photography and how it communicate and capture ideas that encompasses the use of elements and principles. My students grow up with a phone and love to take selfie. The love of photography, for my students makes this project more meaning for me because students have the ability to demonstrate their level of understanding across the curriculum in a creative as well as useful format. Conclusion After completing this project, what stood out to me the most was the importance of continuously reviewing the application of elements, principles and style concepts. This repetitive process allow me to examine these concepts in different ways which I believe improved my understanding of the definitions as well as think of various ways I could integrate in the everyday classroom.
